Tour Format & Event Structure

Total Event Length: Approximately 2 hours

Event Components

  1. Welcome & Introduction (10 minutes)

    • Host introduction and overview of the program

  2. Documentary Screening (60 minutes)

    • The Black Cowboy (60-minute documentary featuring Art T. Burton)

  3. Lecture & Historical Context (20–25 minutes)

    • Lecture led by Art T. Burton or an approved stand-in historian

    • Expanded discussion of Black cowboys, lawmen, settlers, and frontier life

  4. Q & A Session (15–20 minutes)

    • Audience questions and moderated discussion

  5. Book Signing & Meet-and-Greet (15–20 minutes)

    • Art T. Burton book sales and signing (when present)

    • Merchandise and educational materials available

Cowboy Living History Component

Each event will feature a cowboy living historian who will:

  • Demonstrate authentic cowboy attire, tools, and horsemanship traditions

  • Explain the daily life, labor, and culture of historical cowboys

  • Provide hands-on context that complements the film and lecture

This element adds depth, interactivity, and visual authenticity to the event experience.

Stand-In Presenter Structure

For tour dates where Art T. Burton is unable to attend in person:

  • A vetted and approved stand-in presenter will represent the program

  • The stand-in will follow established tour guidelines, curriculum, and messaging

  • The documentary film remains the central anchor of the event

This structure ensures tour continuity while maintaining educational quality and brand integrity.
